Dan Paterson is a senior book conservator at the Library of Congress where he has worked since 2003. He has an MLIS from the University of Texas at Austin with an Advanced Certificate in Book and Paper Conservation. Previously he held internship positions at Northwestern University, The Newberry Library and The Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park. At the Library of Congress he specializes in the conservation of rare books, working primarily on collection items from the Asian Division and the Rare Book and Special Collections Division. His research interests include the use of manuscript fragments in bindings, the history and use of organ and brain tanned leather, and non-Western book structures, focusing primarily on codex formats from East Asia.
